Forge Side, a village located in the Gwent valley of Wales, has a long-standing reputation for paranormal activity, drawing interest from paranormal investigators and local folklore enthusiasts alike. Reports of unexplained phenomena in Forge Side trace back to the early 20th century, often correlating with the area's industrial past. The former ironworks and the associated miner's cottages are frequently cited loci for unusual occurrences. Disembodied voices, often described as whispers or moans, have been reported by residents living in proximity to the old foundry site. These auditory phenomena are periodically accompanied by unexplained temperature drops and the sensation of being watched, contributing to the perceived haunted Forge Side atmosphere. Eyewitness accounts detail fleeting shadows observed within empty buildings, particularly at dusk, which some attribute to lingering spirits of former workers. Further accounts of paranormal activity in Forge Side involve poltergeist-like disturbances within private residences. These reports include objects moving on their own, tapping sounds emanating from walls, and doors opening and closing without human intervention. One prominent narrative involves a house on High Street, where a family in the 1970s reportedly experienced crockery levitating and then smashing, and beds shaking violently during the night. Local historians suggest these manifestations might be linked to tragic incidents that occurred during the village's industrial boom, such as mining accidents or outbreaks of disease, creating a residual energy conducive to unexplained phenomena Forge Side. Some researchers theorize that the geological composition of the Gwent valley, particularly the presence of certain minerals, might also play a role in amplifying or enabling these reported occurrences. Beyond auditory and kinetic phenomena, there have been numerous sightings of apparitions in Forge Side. A common report involves a female figure dressed in old-fashioned clothing, often seen near the old churchyard and then vanishing abruptly. This figure is frequently described as a 'lady in grey' and is believed by some to be the ghost of a nurse who once served the community. Another recurring apparition is that of a small child, reportedly observed playing near the ruins of the original schoolhouse before disappearing. These visual disturbances add to the perception of Forge Side as a location rich in spectral lore. The persistent nature and variety of these paranormal reports have positioned Forge Side as a notable site for studies into unexplained phenomena and alleged haunting events within Wales.
