Is this church haunted?
History
St Peter's Church on the outskirts of Newborough is set at the highest point locally, affording a fantastic view of the coast and over towards Caernarvon (five miles away) on the mainland. The church is adjacent to the the excavated archaeological remains of Llys Rhosyr, the Royal Court of the Princes of Gwynedd, when they were on Anglesey. There is a churchyard between the church and the road and the church is still used for ceremonies such as funerals.
Although there do not appear to be any references to specific ghosts, the locals have stories relating to the church during stormy weather, possibly connected to the two bells hanging externally in a belfry tower tolling due to the wind? The church was used for services of local fishermen who perished at sea.
Continuing along church road to the coastal car park and incredible beaches, you come to Tŵr Bach (Small Tower) lighthouse on Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island), rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of a former lighthouse keeper who died while on duty on the island and remained devoted to his post even after death (see additional post on this story).
