Accounts of unexplained phenomena in Clapdog Green date back to the early 20th century, with a significant increase in reports emerging during the latter half of the 20th century and continuing into the 21st. The area’s isolated nature and historical background, including ancient roadways and agricultural past, are often cited by local folklore as contributing factors to its purported haunting. Among the specific types of paranormal occurrences reported, spectral apparitions are a recurring theme. Witnesses have described seeing translucent figures, often appearing briefly on disused tracks and around older homesteads. One frequently reported entity is that of a "Grey Lady" near the overgrown ruins of what is believed to be a former monastic grange, sometimes accompanied by a faint sound described as lamenting. Additionally, there have been numerous instances of disembodied voices and unexplained sounds, ranging from whispers and distant cries to the clatter of what sounds like hooves on cobblestones, despite the absence of horses in the immediate vicinity. These auditory experiences are particularly prevalent in the wooded sections bordering the hamlet. Beyond visual and auditory phenomena, Clapdog Green has also been the subject of reports concerning poltergeist activity. Residents in several properties have described objects moving of their own volition, sudden drops in temperature, and inexplicable electrical disturbances.
