The area's secluded nature and proximity to ancient waterways are often cited by enthusiasts as contributing factors to its allegedly haunted reputation. Accounts frequently focus on spectral apparitions, unexplained noises, and atmospheric disturbances that defy conventional explanations. One of the most persistent legends surrounding Plucks Gutter concerns ghostly figures sighted near the riverbanks and the few historic buildings in the hamlet. Witnesses have reported encountering a woman in white, sometimes described as a "weeping lady," whose appearance is often accompanied by a sudden drop in temperature. Another recurring report involves a spectral fisherman, said to be seen casting his line into the Stour, only to vanish when approached. These sightings contribute to the narrative of Plucks Gutter as a locale with a history of unexplained phenomena. Additionally, the area has seen reports of disembodied voices and whispers, particularly near the former ferry crossing points, adding to the claims of paranormal activity in Plucks Gutter. Beyond visual and auditory phenomena, some individuals have reported experiencing poltergeist-like activity.
