The village's historical architecture, including its medieval church and several Georgian-era buildings, is often cited as a potential locus for these occurrences, contributing to its reputation as a site for haunted Gromford tales. One of the most persistent legends surrounding Gromford involves sightings of a spectral coach and horses, typically reported on the old coaching road that runs through the village. Witnesses describe hearing the clatter of hooves and carriage wheels, sometimes accompanied by faint human voices, even when no physical vehicle is present. Local folklore attributes these sightings to an accident or a robbery that purportedly occurred centuries ago. Several individuals have also claimed to see apparitions of a robed figure, believed by some to be a former vicar, wandering the church grounds. Beyond these traditional ghost stories, Gromford has also garnered attention for more unusual unexplained phenomena.
